Prostate cancer

Postby Thomas » Fri Sep 04, 2009 3:40 pm

In summer 2008 I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. My father had the same disease in his 70s, so I expected it, but not in my 50s. After discussing all the options with my doctors, I decided to have the prostate brachytherapy treatment. In plain English, that's the insertion of radioactive seeds into the prostate gland. This was done at an Oklahoma City hospital in late August 2008. It's been a little over a year and my PSA number is way down. For me the seeds were the way to go, but that was a personal decision. It seemed to be a better option that removal of the gland. With luck I'll be around a few more years.
